Welcome to Winebar

The Most Imaginatively Named Wine Bar in the World

We are a natural wine bar and shop. The wine we serve and sell is low-intervention, small batch and naturally made. The focus is always on provenance, quality and tastiness.

If you visit our bar, you'll find us pouring our favourite, funky, natty and just plain delicious wines by the glass (very nice glasses) alongside a selection of thoughtfully prepared bar plates perfect for eating while drinking.

The range of wines we serve at our Kramerville bar and the ones we retail at both locations change every few weeks so what's available now may not always be. So grab that bottle or forever wonder what could have been.

Join Winebar and the hunkiest man in natural wine, Francois Haasbroek from Blackwater Wines, for a salacious showcase (the food and wine tasting will be great too).

Blackwater is known for releasing wines when they are at their optimal readiness, not a moment before. As usual, they're all low-intervention, limited, and delicious. And Francois will be walking us through 9 (!) of them.

You know it's an extraordinary wine when the winemaker himself thinks it's the best wine of the vintage and even more so when that winemaker is the world renowned Eben Sadie.

Palladius gets its bigplayer mentality from the staggering 11 different Mediterranean white varieties harvested from 17 vineyard parcels scattered across the Swartland canvas. The grapes are whole bunch pressed to concrete eggs to ferment, blended after 12 months and then aged for another year in two old wooden foudres before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Palladius delivers big lemongrass, lemon zest and fresh tropical notes. It's complex, textured, composed and beyond exceptional - especially so when aged for a minimum of 4-6yrs.

Lords of what? Don't worry we don't know either.

But what we do know for sure is that this Chenin Blanc is incredible.

Like many Swartland Chenins it's packed with texture, loads of bright flavours, minerality, and salinity. And is an absolute showstopper.

Picture this, it's December in South Africa. You've just returned from a game drive/beach day/pool sesh/*insert other holiday activity*, there's a fire with some food on it, a sunset, and this wine. Paradise exists.

Notes of freshly baked bread and crisp apple. Flinty with a smokey finish.

Van loggerenberg Trust Your Gut

If you're ever unsure, always trust your gut. Especially so if it is this exceptional example of Chenin Blanc made by one of our favourite wine makers.

The elegance, finesse, and focus of Trust Your Gut are thanks to the Paardeberg bush vine grapes that make up 60% of the total volume. The Polkadraai grapes bring more than just 40% in volume; they deliver the necessary depth and balance.

And the two together give us a wine with notes of pears and white peach that delicately dominate the nose and palate and leave us bickering amongst after the final sip.
