This is Mick & Jeanine Craven’s debut release of the Grenache bushvines they planted back in 2017 at the same Polkadraai Hills site as their cult wine, Pinot Gris.
Keeping true to their style, grapes were harvested early for freshness and lower alcohol. They were then destemmed and fermented whole in open-top stainless steel fermenters. Gentle pumpovers or punchdowns were done 1-2 times per day for the duration of fermentation before finally being aged in concrete for 8 months.
A wonderful and energetic Grenache expressed through a sour cherry and marjoram aroma and an unusually fresh, lean palate.
Best served chilled.
